The Building Work - UPDATE

Parents who huddle together on the Junior Playground waiting for their charges to enter school each morning will have noticed the slow but steady decimation of the area of land between the car park and the Year 5 block.

Originally, this area used to be sectioned into "allotment plots" for each class to grow certain things but, not having been used for many years, it was overgrown and "out of bounds" to the children.

We looked at several schemes to bring it back into service, but were always stopped, firstly because of the expense of clearing the undergrowth and, secondly, because not quite knowing exactly what the development of the Junior School and surrounding environment would actually bring to the school.

Now though, we have been spared the expense due to our involvement with the Probation service who have a team that comes at the wekeends to do community service. They have nearly completed the groundwork, and are due to complete this phase of the project soon. We are then looking to create a landscaped quiet area with seating and benching for the children to talk and play with board games and other quiet activities. This will, hopefully, coincide with the opening of the new school in July.

Mrs Unwin

As some of you know, one of our long-term Teaching Assistancts and Special Needs Support, Mrs Unwin, retired from school on Friday due to personal and family reasons.

I would just like to record my thanks for her many years of dedicated service to the school and your children. Always willing, always supportive, always motivated by her concerns for all the children and especially those children who required her extra support, Mrs Unwin will be sadly missed, although she is hoping to return at some point in a voluntary capacity.

In her absence, Mrs Smith will be taking over Mrs Unwins Special Needs support work each afternoon.

Amendment to the Unifirm letter

Unfortunately, in the last newsletter, I sent out a slightly incorrect detail for the girls summer uniform. I wrote that grey tights and three quarter length socks were summer uniform, and was pulled up rather sharply by several parents and staff who pointed out that summer uniform was short white socks in the summer, not grey tights or three quarter length socks.

What does a Dad know about these things !! I consider myself suitably chastised ! Please note the amendment .....
